Theme and tunes

Felt the blog needed a face-lift. Trawled through the spectrum of free themes before settling on a staggered sky scraper look. Wish the font was a little bigger though, and there was more red, but I’m sure my CSS-minded friends will be able to help me out – or any of my readers (yes, that’s where you lot come in).

Borrowing an idea from colleague and good friend Drunkengamer whereby people share their choices for songs across social networks – circa, #dailysong (feel free to join the movement on Twitter with a tweet featuring #dailysong) Mumford & Son with Little Lion Man captures the mood of the evening. If, if, if only I had paid more attention in school.

Podge-cast

Spent the evening creating a podcast with two of the guys I work with at Thirteen1 magazine. Both are on Twitter: @drunkengamer and @d_gow Its actuallly drunkengamer’s weekly podcast in which he recap’s a full week’s worth of dailysong’s. You will find dailysong on Facebook and to join in the twitter revolution just include #dailysong in your tweet. What we lack in discipline – its hard to stay on topic – we make up for with fun.

On the subject of dailysong, this was a previous weeks effort. Its raw and hilarious (I’m bias, sure) – http://www.drunken-gamer.com/personal/a-week-in-dailysongs-podcast-episode-7/ – and even features Angus the cat.

Calm before the storm

The last business week before the Christmas week is in full flow. It started with updates to social networks about the Christmas issue of Thirteen1 magazine which is now live – http://bit.ly/51FdZJ – and will continue with emails and phone calls as we reach out to prospective advertising clients. Oh, and don’t forget coffee. We thrive on coffee. Well, some more than others.

Momentum

If I’m honest, I’ve lost the blogging momentum of late. And I made such a promising start with 3 blog posts in consecutive days and then… nothing. My output dried up like a well under the sweltering African heat. But that’s all behind me. I’m back now, and I vow to adhere to at least 1 post a day from this key stroke onward.

Work has slipped into another gear of late as we look to schedule content for the December issue of our web games publication, Thirteen1 The November issue looks gorgeous – credit to Dan, Gow, Paddy and our network of freelancers. You can follow our activities on Twitter.

Thirteen1 Editor Dan and I will be traveling to London over the next week or so put the magazine on the radar of the media buyers. The magazine is now genuinely competing with its competition in print both in terms of volume of pages but also circulation/readership. All we need to happen is for the media buyers to acknowledge this. But like any business, organic growth is the order of the day, especially in such an unstable climate.

Not sure if you have been following by Facebook status, but our cat (Angus) chewed through the cable of my laptop charger. Thankfully, he didn’t get an electronic shock. I discovered this several minutes before a crucial meeting with a client. Maplins came to the rescue and Angus reveled in his 15 minutes of social noteriety.

Where has this week gone? Business planning is the order of the day tomorrow so a good nights sleep is in order. No doubt there will be some post-work socialising in Ye Old Hart. TGI Friday? Actually, no. I could do with an extra working day..

And to finish on a high, myself and wonderful girlfriend, Cheryl recently celebrated our 2 years anniversary as boy/girlfriend. Although I was caught out, if I’m being honest.  “Happy 2 ears” was what I *thought* Cheryl whispered to me on the walk to work. Naturally this confused me. So ‘ears to a lifetime of happiness.
